Ok, so after my last post, I didn't want you all to feel bad for me. It wasn't fun at the time but, now I can look back and tell a great story. My next couple of posts will be a string of dates that I had while I tried my hand at online dating. Most of these dates took place in 2010. This next story is not for someone to read who is unsure if they should try online dating. If you read this, you will not want to online date. ;)
I was new to the world of online dating but, thought I should give it a try as I had not been out on a date in a very long time and didn't have any prospects. The idea of not having prospects is always so depressing for me. I like to have at least 5 guys that I'm interested in at any one time. I call them "My Faves" named after the t-Mobile "my 5 fave" that was really popular a few years ago. That way if one didn't "pan out" I had four more to choose from. Anyways, that's another story for another time.
So I was testing the waters of online dating and I stumbled upon a profile of a guy, lets call him Gunner (I have my reasons). Gunner seemed like a pretty cool guy. So we began messaging back and forth which led to him eventually wanting to take me on a date. I was very nervous and unsure of how to meet someone in person you'd just talked to on the Internet so I decided that meeting in a public place would be a good idea. I was living in Lehi and he was living up north at the time so we decided our first date would be short and simple. We met at a Starbucks in Draper. We just sat in Starbucks and had a good chat, it was closing so we sat in his car and chatted for a bit. I could tell right away he was super into me but, I wasn't as in to him. He told me I had a nice booty as I walked out the door of Starbucks... While we were in the car he told me he would be traveling out of town for work that weekend but, he'd like to go out again that next week. I agreed that I would go out with him again. I wasn't really feeling a "spark" per say but, I was willing to give him another shot.
That Monday I had the day off and I receive a text from Gunner saying "when are we going to go out this week?" I had replied probably not until this weekend and this is where it got bad....
Gunner: "If you didn't want to go out with me again you shouldn't have said you would"
me: " um, I said I would and I meant it, I have a busy week but, I am free this weekend"
Gunner: " I think you're being misleading to me, if you don't want to go out just say so"
me: "Ok, I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to be. This is what I have going on this week...." blah blah blah, told him of my plans every day that week
Gunner: "Ok, I'm so sorry, my favorite football team lost this weekend and I'm just struggling with it"
me: "So you're taking your football frustrations out on me? That hardly seems fair."
Gunner: "I'm sorry, it was just a really rough time for me. Hey listen, I have tickets to a Jazz game tonight do you want to go with me?"
me: " Hey, Gunner, remember how I told you I wasn't free tonight?"
Gunner: honestly I can't remember exactly how this played out after this but, it suddenly went from bad to worse. He was getting mad at me again for "mis-leading" him and complaining all about his football team and such. I was getting a little freaked out. He was coming across as very controlling and well, I was a little scared. Good thing he didn't know where I lived!
Me: "ok, Gunner, I just want you to know you're coming off as kind of crazy right now. I'm so sorry you're upset about your football team but, I think I'd like you to back off right now. I don't think this week is going to be good for us to go out. Lets just chill out this week and we'll try again for next week"
Gunner: "YOU KNOW WHAT? I DON'T NEED THIS S*%$ THERE ARE PLENTY OF GIRLS OUT THERE WHO WILL LOVE ME FOR ME. DO ME A FAVOR AND LOSE MY NUMBER"
me: "Done"
Ok, I was so flustered and in shock as to what just happened! He was insane. I deleted him as a contact right then and there. We had added each other on facebook so I deleted him and blocked him as well.
A few months later I get a text from an unknown number:
"Hey pretty lady, how are you?"
me: " that all depends on who this is" Now, I had a sick feeling inside that is was from him so I had my roommate call the number from her out of state phone number knowing he wouldn't pick up. I heard his voice on the answering machine and cringed.
Gunner: "you're night in shinning armour"
me:"hmm, this isn't my boyfriend. I have him programmed into my phone." I didn't have a boyfriend at the time but, a girls' gotta do what she has got to do.
Gunner:"you have a boyfriend? Ha!"
That's the very last time I ever heard from that guy. Thank goodness!! I just couldn't believe that after all that drama... and him telling me to loose his number, he didn't actually delete mine!
Don't worry, I kept going on the online dating thing. It's a good thing too because I might be out of stories now if I hadn't ;)
